I am offering saxophone
(alto, tenor, and baritone) and clarinet lessons to all ages and
levels. With my training and 18 years of experience as a professional musician, I have the tools to show you the fundamentals, to teach you how to read music,
and to give you a foundation on which to build improvisational skills,
among other things. My teachers were Richard Joiner (former principal
clarinetist of the Denver Symphony Orchestra), Art Bouton (current
performer and instructor at the University of Denver) and the late,
great jazz saxophonist Hal Stein. I have an empathetic, patient
approach to teaching-- I want to make it enjoyable to learn.
No matter what genres of music you're interested in, I can help you with the following:
--Being able to sightread rhythmically challenging music with confidence
--Developing and maintaining a good tone
--Paying proper attention to articulation and dynamics
--Getting comfortable with improvisation: understanding chord notations, progressions, and music theory
For lessons, I can either come to you or meet you at an agreed-upon practice space (such as Union Music in San Francisco). My rates are competitive, and I gladly answer questions by e-mail or phone outside of lesson times.
